Kraig P. Kooiman
Director of Product Design & Development
Mr. Kooiman has extensive experience in product design and development from concept to manufacturing. For the past decade of his 30+ year career he has worked in developing innovative medical device solutions for start-up to Fortune 500 companies, including such diverse products as: spine surgery devices; sutureless wound closure devices; hand-held powered instruments; portable oxygen concentrators and generators; disposable diabetic infusion sets; and hospital vacuum system containers. Kraig is an industry expert in industrial design, mechanical design (SolidWorks), human factors / ergonomics, rapid prototyping, and procurement of prototype / production tooling and parts.
Dr. Kenneth Totz, DO FACEP
Dr. Kenneth Totz DO FACEP is a practicing board certified Emergency Physician. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology at St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. He then earned his medical degree at Midwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He completed a transitional internship at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia and then Flight Surgery training at the Naval Operations Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida during his twelve year Naval career. Dr. Totz subsequently moved back to his hometown of Houston, Texas to complete a residency in Emergency Medicine at The University of Texas at Houston. During his last year of residency, Dr. Totz was bitten by a patient, while attempting to navigate an orogastric tube into position. That was the epiphany moment that lead to the creation of Intubix.
Specializing in net-shape rubber and plastic components for over 25 years, Fred is a Senior Applications Engineer who embraced cradle to grave Design For Cost & Manufacturability concepts of form, fit & function for many products still in use today. Fred is currently the National Sales Manager for Pacifictech Molded Products, Inc. and principal architect of client global sourcing strategies.
Timothy L. Brooks, M.S.
Vice President of Sales
Mr. Brooks brings over 30 years of experience in the Life Science industry to Da Vinci Medical. His wide-ranging career progressed from academic and industrial research to sales, marketing management and executive positions for the introduction of new bioscience, laboratory automation and clinical technologies. He has represented market-leading products and services for global healthcare companies including Beckman Coulter, Bio-Rad Laboratories and Quest Diagnostics. Mr. Brooks received a B.A. in Biology from UC San Diego and a M.S. in Biochemistry from UC San Francisco.
Dr. Scott Nelson, D.O.
Dr. Scott Nelson comes from a broad background including Emergency Medicine as a Board-certified specialist for 21 years, Industrial Medicine, Wound Care and Age Management Medicine. Originally trained at the University of North Texas, he was Assistant Clinical Professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from 1987-2010. His wife, Deborah K. Nelson, R.N., conceived of the original design of the IV Guard while employed in Intensive Care. Together, they refined the design and with the Da Vinci Medical team have produced their ideal embodiment of the IV Guard concept.
